Sleeping with the Enemy opens its escape route with a staged drowning. Julia Roberts leaves behind a ring and a violent husband who notices details for all the wrong reasons.

Double Jeopardy gives the deception to the husband. Wild Things keeps adding conspirators to its apparent murder, and Side Effects turns performed self-harm into part of a larger fraud. In each case, the false scene buys time. It also creates a very motivated witness.

🟡 Medium: Architecture becomes impossible or inescapable

Movies: Vivarium · Relic · You Should Have Left · Dave Made a Maze

The suburban development in Vivarium repeats the same green house until leaving becomes an optical illusion. Its clouds look manufactured because they are. Nothing there has earned a natural curve.

Relic hides a spreading maze inside a family home, while You Should Have Left measures rooms that exceed the building. Dave Made a Maze offers the cheerful version: a cardboard fort with a lethal fantasy interior. Never compliment a maze before checking whether it has eaten anyone.

🔵 Hard: One performer plays multiple major characters

Movies: The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps · Norbit · Coming 2 America · Jack and Jill

Murphy handles several Klumps, both spouses in Norbit, and the barbershop regulars in Coming 2 America. The makeup is doing serious labor, but the voices sell the trick.

Jack and Jill gives Adam Sandler both twins and then places Al Pacino opposite them. Pacino performs a Dunkin' commercial inside the film. Multiplication was not the strangest choice available.

🟣 Tricky: Real participants reenact versions of their own lives

Movies: Bloody Sunday · The 15:17 to Paris · Close-Up · The Rider

The three Americans who stopped the 2015 Thalys train attack play themselves in The 15:17 to Paris. Close-Up goes further: the people involved in Hossain Sabzian's impersonation case reconstruct it for Abbas Kiarostami.

Chloé Zhao built The Rider around Brady Jandreau and his family after his rodeo injury. Bloody Sunday cast Derry locals and people connected to the events alongside actors. These films do not erase performance. They make lived experience part of it.

The impossible houses win today's argument. At least the Eddie Murphy characters obey Euclidean space.

The matching PixelLinkr puzzle had enemies studying player habits, a less comforting form of audience participation.
