Instant Family gives Pete and Ellie three foster siblings at once, including a teenager who can spot adult nonsense before breakfast. The comedy knows that good intentions do not make anybody instantly competent.

The Game Plan drops a daughter into a quarterback's spotless bachelor life. Raising Helen hands Kate Hudson three children after a family tragedy, while Instructions Not Included turns a reckless Acapulco bachelor into a devoted father. Every adult begins by asking where the instructions are. The title of the last film has already answered.

🟡 Medium: Lighthouses become dangerous outposts

The lighthouse in The Light Between Oceans is a job, a home, and the place where one terrible moral choice can survive without witnesses. Adam Arkapaw's photography makes the isolation look romantic until it starts feeling judicial.

Half Light turns a Scottish lighthouse into the center of a ghostly conspiracy. Kirk Douglas defends another from pirates in The Light at the Edge of the World. Cold Skin adds a nightly siege by amphibious creatures. Apparently the beam attracts everything except a sensible relocation agent.

🔵 Hard: Routine repeats until tiny changes matter

Chantal Akerman holds on Jeanne's chores long enough for viewers to learn their rhythm. When dinner runs late, the disruption is no longer small. We have been trained to notice.

Paterson finds poetry inside a bus driver's repeated week. The Turin Horse strips daily life down as food, water, and light begin to fail. Ove patrols his housing association with comic rigidity until new neighbors interrupt him. Repetition is the connection, but change is the point.

🟣 Tricky: Supernatural threats travel through electronics

Movies: Poltergeist · White Noise · Pulse · Ghost in the Machine

Carol Anne kneels before television static in Poltergeist and delivers four words that permanently ruined late-night broadcast snow: "They're here." White Noise builds its entire haunting around electronic voice phenomena, recordings that may carry the dead.

Pulse lets loneliness spread through computers and phones. Ghost in the Machine puts a killer into the electrical grid, where appliances become accomplices. The aha arrives when the devices stop being props and become entry points. The warranty does not cover this.

The routines were the quiet standout. They made a boiled potato feel more dangerous than a possessed television.
