Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games
This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.
Once never names its central musicians. The credits settle for Guy and Girl, which sounds lazy until the film makes the anonymity feel intimate. They know each other's songs before the audience knows anything suitable for a tax form.
Movies: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe · Little Monsters · The Phantom Tollbooth · The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Lucy finds a country behind a wardrobe. Brian reaches a monster world beneath his bed. Milo drives through a tollbooth that appears in his room, because fantasy children receive much more interesting unsolicited packages.
Clara crosses a magical bridge into the Four Realms in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Each threshold begins as an ordinary household object or passage, then calmly violates zoning law.
Movies: Cyrano · The Perfect Man · The Lunchbox · Secret Admirer
Cyrano writes the letters that Christian signs, giving Roxanne the right words from the wrong man. The Perfect Man has a daughter invent an online admirer for her mother. Both schemes require the sender to keep typing after a sensible person would have confessed.
The Lunchbox starts with a delivery mistake in Mumbai and lets handwritten notes build a private bond. Secret Admirer uses one unsigned letter to trigger a much louder chain of romantic confusion. Ink is cheap. Consequences remain expensive.
Movies: The Road · Once · Wheelman · Zombieland
The father and son in The Road are simply the Man and the Boy. Wheelman keeps Frank Grillo's getaway driver behind a job title. Removing a name makes both films feel stripped down, as if biography would be an unaffordable luxury.
Once uses Guy and Girl. Zombieland lets survivors choose geographic aliases such as Columbus and Tallahassee. The tricky part is separating a name the audience uses from a real name the film never gives.
Movies: Black Beauty · A Dog's Purpose · The Art of Racing in the Rain · Fluke
Alan Cumming voices Black Beauty's first-person account in the 1994 film. Josh Gad narrates Bailey's repeated canine lives in A Dog's Purpose. Kevin Costner voices Enzo in The Art of Racing in the Rain, a dog with strong opinions about racing and reincarnation.
Fluke makes the arrangement stranger by giving its dog memories of a former human life. Three dogs and one horse tell us what the humans look like from floor level. The reviews are mixed.
The anonymous letters are sweet until you imagine having to maintain the lie across several postal delays. Today's PixelLinkr puzzle prefers evidence boards, where at least the red string admits what it is doing.
