Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games
This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.
Lake Placid has a giant crocodile, Betty White, and an answer for anyone who thought a quiet Maine lake sounded restorative. The crocodile is large. Betty White's language is larger.
Movies: Superman · KPop Demon Hunters · Materialists · Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
Four very different 2025 releases made the cleanest opening set. James Gunn sent Superman back to Metropolis, while Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning sent Tom Cruise around the world and, inevitably, toward machinery no insurer should cover.
Netflix released KPop Demon Hunters in June, with Sony Pictures Animation behind its Seoul-set supernatural pop spectacle. Materialists stayed in New York and made matchmaking, money, and romantic arithmetic look almost as stressful as saving civilization.
Movies: Tin Cup · Caddyshack · The Legend of Bagger Vance · Happy Gilmore 2
Tin Cup builds toward the U.S. Open and the question of whether Roy McAvoy can stop choosing the heroic shot for five consecutive minutes. Kevin Costner's swing is convincing. Roy's risk assessment is not.
Caddyshack treats Bushwood Country Club as a class war with golf carts. The Legend of Bagger Vance gives the game a mystical guide, and Happy Gilmore 2 returns Adam Sandler to professional golf decades after the original taught spectators that hockey manners transfer poorly.
Movies: Primeval · Rogue · Lake Placid · Black Water
Rogue and Black Water both head to northern Australia, where the waterline conceals a predator built for patience. Greg McLean directs Rogue on a remote river; Black Water traps its survivors in mangrove trees above the threat.
Primeval moves the hunt to Burundi and loosely draws on reports of Gustave, a large Nile crocodile. Lake Placid chooses creature comedy, puts its crocodile in Maine, and lets Oliver Platt argue with Brendan Gleeson while everyone pretends this can still be handled professionally.
The category works because the animal changes how every location reads. A boat, a log, or a patch of still water stops being background. It becomes a possible mouth.
Movies: Death at a Funeral · The Big Chill · Four Weddings and a Funeral · Eulogy
The Big Chill gathers former college friends in South Carolina after one member of the group dies. Lawrence Kasdan lets grief share space with old attraction, career disappointment, and the uncomfortable math of who everybody became.
The British Death at a Funeral and Eulogy push the gathering toward farce, where private information keeps choosing the worst possible public moment. Four Weddings and a Funeral spends most of its title on romance, but the funeral is where the friend group has to stop performing social ease.
Treat the ceremony as a summons and the set falls into place. Death gets everyone into one room; history does the rest. Formal clothes cannot keep a family secret from finding the microphone.
The funeral group has the sharpest emotional turn of the day. For a different kind of digging, today's PixelLinkr puzzle hands out drills and sends trade ships across the ocean.
