Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games
This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.
Cats won Worst Picture at the Razzies and still may not be the strangest item in its row. Movie 43 exists as proof that a huge cast and several directors can all arrive at the same bad decision independently.
Movies: Cats · Movie 43 · Battlefield Earth · The Emoji Movie
These four won the Golden Raspberry for Worst Picture. Battlefield Earth took the prize for 2000, then kept collecting retrospective Razzies as if there were loyalty points.
The Emoji Movie became the first animated feature to win Worst Picture. Cats answered two years later with fur technology, scale problems, and the confidence of a production that assumed somebody else had checked the final render.
Movies: Censor · Lucy in the Sky · The Horse Whisperer · Maestro
Censor narrows and distorts its frame as reality starts resembling the video nasties its protagonist reviews. Lucy in the Sky changes ratios to express how cramped Earth feels after space.
The Horse Whisperer widens when the story leaves New York for Montana. Maestro shifts format and color across periods in Leonard Bernstein's life. In each film, the black bars are doing character work.
Movies: Evolution · Chicken Little · Critters · Save Yourselves!
Evolution gives David Duchovny fast-growing extraterrestrials and a solution that would embarrass most scientific journals. Critters sends hungry alien escapees into rural Kansas, then lets the comedy and creature damage share the bill.
Chicken Little earns the right to say, "I told you so," when the sky problem becomes an actual invasion. Save Yourselves! isolates its couple on a device-free retreat during an alien attack. Digital wellness has rarely had worse timing.
Movies: Foxcatcher · Vision Quest · Win Win · American Wrestler: The Wizard
This is wrestling without ring ropes or scripted villains. Foxcatcher follows Olympic wrestlers Mark and Dave Schultz under John du Pont's patronage. Vision Quest makes a high-school weight-class challenge feel like a private epic.
Win Win cast real wrestler Alex Shaffer as Kyle, the gifted teenager who changes a struggling team. American Wrestler follows an Iranian refugee joining a California school team. Once the mats line up, the group stops looking like four unrelated dramas.
The changing frames were the neatest visual trick. Over at PixelLinkr #198, regional titles perform a similar identity swap before the game even starts.
